On January 20, 2021 the Polish social networking website Albicla has started. Owned by the Polish independent media company S?owo Niezale?ne Sp. z o.o. Albicla is supposed to be the free speech social media platform without censorship. “There is no doubt that for several years the shape of the Internet has been decided by global corporations such as: Facebook, Google, Twitter, Amazon”. – says the creator of the website – Tomasz Sakiewicz “We have seen that censoring US President Donald Trump on social media is not a big challenge for them.” – we read. Right after the start major Polish conservative politicians had made accounts on the website along with over a 1000 other accounts. Ryszard Kapu?ci?ski, leader of The Polish Newspaper Clubs had stated that the website will be avaliable in english. They had also considered a hungarian version. One of the people who decided to state their opinion on the project was a Polish blogger Kataryna. “Albicla. You have to provide your real name and the website can not only delete entries and accounts, but even report them to law enforcement authorities. You cannot post entries that are against good practice, even if they do not break the law. Oh, the National Freedom of Speech Council will have a lot of work.” – she said. While the website can indeed delete accounts however there is no need to provide real names. Accounts that are impersonating well known people as well as troll accounts are banned. The service had experienced major technical difficulties. Mainly related to data leaks of the userbase’s passwords that were avaliable for download. The issue was reported and fixed but another data leak exploit was discovered soonly after. This has caused another wave of criticism directed at the service.
